The lazy Emperor of China, spoilt by his foolish Courtiers and long-suffering servants, is enchanted by the beautiful singing of a Nightingale. But when a Mechanical Nightingale is delivered, he and his Court lose interest in the real bird.

Mechanical toys, however, have a habit of breaking. The heartbroken Emperor is taken ill, and out in the garden the Nightingale is threatened by the jealous Musician's spiteful plan.

Featuring a pair of squabbling Ministers, a bossy Cook and a disgracefully cheeky female Poacher, this sparkling musical is loosely based on a story by Hans Christian Andersen.
